Believing Christians have a strong belief in what a statue or picture represents. Christians believe in the crucifix since Jesus was crucified for the benefit of his worshipers. Why do we use olive tree wood? Because this same tree is mentioned in The Old Testament and The New Testament and also because Jesus sat on Mount of Olives in Jerusalem before painfully and agonizingly being crucified.

The olive tree gives fruit from which olive oil is made. This oil was used during the pre-Christian era by kings who used it for medical treatment and also in food.

When Christianity began, priests blessed and prayed to sanctify the olive oil. Some priest apply the oil to people's foreheads during baptism while others apply it on people's foreheads in special Christian rituals.

Olive oil is also healthy and adds a special flavor to our food.

In many areas in the Holy Land (in Jerusalem and in the Galilee) there are olive trees that are a few hundreds of years old. Worshipers from all over the world come especially to visit these places to see these trees.
